EPR compliance
Understanding EPR in Spain
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requires manufacturers and importers worldwide to take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their products sold in Spain.
What is EPR?
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy approach where producers are given significant responsibility for the treatment or disposal of post-consumer products. In Spain, this means any company worldwide selling products into the Spanish market must register and comply with local regulations.
Why do you need a NIF?
A NIF (Numero de Identificacion Fiscal) is a Spanish tax identification number. It is the mandatory first step for any company worldwide that needs to comply with EPR regulations in Spain. Without a NIF, you cannot register with producer responsibility organizations or fulfill your EPR obligations.
Who needs to comply?
Any company worldwide that manufactures, imports, or sells products in Spain - including through online marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, or your own webshop - must comply with EPR regulations. This applies to packaging, electronics (WEEE), batteries, and more.
